Optoma Unveils Innovative Laser DLP Projectors

Optoma has announced two innovative single-chip DLP laser phosphor projectors: A first-of-its-kind 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) ultra short throw model and a WUGXA model with a rated brightness of 5,500 lumens.

The yet-to-be-named 0.18:1 ultra short throw UHD projector is said to display a 100-inch image on a wall or screen from 2 inches away with 3,300 lumens of brightness. The projector, which is targeted for release early next year (2017), is based on the Android 5.0/Lollipop operating system and supports H.265 multimedia playback.

With 5,500 lumens of brightness, Optoma’s ZU510T projector features a fixed lens with horizontal and vertical lens shift, offering a 1.2:1 - 2.16:1 throw ratio and a digital zoom of 1.8x, enabling it to “cover a wide range of interchangeable lens capabilities.” The projector also has a built-in 10-watt/two speaker system and a variety of inputs, including two HDMI and an HDBaseT connector for sending and controlling AV content over a CAT5 cable. The projector is expected to sell for $4,500 to $5,500 when it is released later this year.

Laser phosphor technology makes possible up to 20,000 hours of “reliable” operation and eliminates the need for lamp and filter replacement, according to Optoma.

until I realized what WUGXA is (1920x1200). I mean, that would be cool and all... if this were four years ago. However, it IS exciting, regardless, to see more laser projectors coming out. According to the Optoma link, they already have two lamp based 4K projectors coming out soon. I'm guessing it's at least another year out before we can hope to see a 4K laser projector, and then probably another couple of years before we see an affordable one. However, I don't think I'll wait till that happens to upgrade. Give me a 4K DLP that I can buy around $3,500 and I'll snap it up real quick. I'd say $5,000, but not with lasers around the corner.

You wouldn't buy one of these for home use. This will be used in commercial applications.

the ultra short throw one is 4k laser phosphor DLP

If they were introducing a decently priced, well-performing "commercial" 4K laser DLP projector that wasn't short-throw, I would still buy one for my home theater.

I am sure they won't be sold very well. As for me price is set unreasonably too high. I hate such things and thankfully my favorite custom essay writers do not do that.
