Philips to Launch 4K/HDR TVs with Google Cast

P&F USA, the exclusive North American licensee for Philips TVs and video products, today announced plans to launch a line of Philips 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) TVs featuring high dynamic range (HDR) capability and Google Cast.

The new 6000 Series comprises four models ranging in price from $650 for the 43-inch 43PFL6621/F7 to $1,500 for the 65-inch 65PFL6621/F7, both due out in July. Two additional models are heading to stores next month: the 49-inch 49PFL6921/F7 ($800) and 55-inch 55PFL6921/F7 ($1,000).

The 49- and 55-inch models use Philips BrightPro LED backlighting system with 128-zone Micro Dimming, which boosts brightness for an “enhanced HDR performance on IPS LCD panels,” while the 43- and 65-inch models feature a Macro Dimming LED backlight on VA LCD panels. All models have onboard 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MIMO antennas for a “better streaming experience.”

With Google Cast, you can use your phone to search, browse, queue, and control the TV from anywhere in the home, according to P&F. Tapping the Cast button in Google Cast-enabled apps such as Netflix, YouTube, and Vudu lets you stream content to the TV without additional logins or downloads. Once the content is “cast”, the TV pulls the material from the Internet and streams it directly from the source, leaving the phone or tablet free to be used without disrupting what’s on the big screen or draining the battery.

Other common features include HDMI 2.0a with HDCP2.2 on all HDMI ports and built-in HEVC and VP9 decoders for UHD playback via Blu-ray, cable/satellite, and streaming.

Philips is also launching the BDP7501 Ultra HD Blu-ray player next month.
