For home theater, this display has more than enough light output for any environment. The color-temperature setting has a large range, from a very warm 5,000 degrees Kelvin to 9,600 degrees K in preset steps. With the help of a trained technician, the display aligned to the D6500 standard and other setup parameters very well.

It was good to have some tech support. This unit can display almost any resolution you can give it, so the menu structure is extensive. The manual helps you control the functions, but a background in basic video also helps. For example, the screen size you select (16:9 or 4:3) depends on the input you're using. There's also a point zoom function that selects any one of nine screen areas and enlarges it to the maximum resolution allowed by the signal. As I said, you need the manual.

The PRO-1000HD has controls to adjust all of the basic video functions, and you can adjust the RGB levels through the operations menu. You can also use the virtual keyboard in the menu to custom-label the inputs and settings. The Pure Cinema mode handles DVD's 24-frame sequence and puts it in the progressive-scan mode. The 3D/Y/C mode set to Motion is great for viewing fast motion, such as sports or car racing. Fast motion was a problem with some of the earlier panels because the lag in the switching elements couldn't keep up with the speed of the motion, which caused the image to blur. Pioneer designed the Motion setting to minimize the blur effect, and it works.

All in all, this is a very flexible display for the home or office. Its most unique feature is its ability to fit into one of Pioneer's frames or one from a frame shop. Most people want to show off their new acquisition but don't want to detract from their decorating. The PRO-1000HD's ability to blend into a room when it's not in use is definitely a plus. Someone at Pioneer is thinking about the homeowner. What a concept. The PRO-1000HD looks good and produces a good picture—this is it!
