Pioneer Unveils Budget-Priced Elite AVRs
Rated to deliver 7 x 100 and 7 x 80 watts, respectively, the VSX-LX302 ($799) and VSX-LX102 ($599) are equipped with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround processing, hi-res audio capability (192 kHz/24-bit and DSD 2.8 MHz/5.6 MHz), and support the latest video technologies, including 4K/60p/4:4:4/24-bit video, HDCP 2.2 copy protection, HDR10 and Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR), and the BT.2020 expanded color space.
Other common features include 4K upscaling of standard HD video, line outputs for two subwoofers, Pioneer’s MCACC auto calibration system, a phase control to compensate for bass delay, a “reflex optimizer” to integrate sound from Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers with the main speakers, dual-band Wi-Fi, and a host of networking and streaming features, including Chromecast built-in, AirPlay, DTS Play-Fi (via a future firmware update), and onboard apps for Spotify, Tidal, TuneIn internet radio, and Deezer.
Both models will also support Blackfire’s FireConnect platform via a future firmware update; the wireless audio distribution platform is compatible with speakers such as Pioneer’s MRX-3. The VSX-LX302 adds a Zone 2 pre-/line out as well as a powered Zone 2.
The VSX-LX302 provides seven HDMI inputs (one front) and two outputs plus three digital inputs (two optical, one coaxial), while the VSX-LX102 has four HDMI inputs and one output plus two digital inputs (one optical and one coaxial).
