Pioneer is revealing a new center channel and bookshelf speaker designed to match the S-3EX speakers revealed last year. Together, they'll make a kick-ass home theater system that will put most home-theater-in-a-box sat/sub system to shame. What makes them so special?   

The center and bookshelf speakers use the same components, but the S-8EX center channel uses two 16cm bass drivers while the bookshelf S-4EX uses a single 16cm driver with a 35mm long voice coil. They both use a 14cm midrange/tweeter with a concentric 3-cm ceramic dome tweeter. Maximum power rating is 160 watts into 6 ohms. Both are available in a choice of beech high gloss veneer or a matte-finished dark teak.

These are both high-end speakers with cabinets designed to the same rigorous standards as the rest of the EX line. We'll let you read the spec sheet for the details, but trust me, they're well designed, and the sound should be impressive. -Leslie Shapiro
