Predator 2 (Blu-ray)
Predator was a smashing success and this follow-up was met with mixed feelings. I personally enjoyed it, but it does drift into silliness. With rumors over the reboot of the franchise in the works having Robert Rodriquez steering the ship, one has to wonder how the future will play out. I still find this to be great popcorn flick and better than a lot of sequels I’ve seen over the last few years.
I wondered how well this would fare in HD and am surprised at how good it looks for a smaller catalog release. The print is in great shape and delivers solid definition and depth. There are some instances of minor noise that's never bothersome. Contrast is decent, but the muted colors make it look a little long in the tooth.
The DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack is a bit thin, but the sound design creates some excitement by fully utilizing the rear speakers, especially during the intense action scenes. Dialog is a bit forward but the imaging is solid with decent bass response, although the dynamics never approach what is found in newer films.
Extras include a pair of audio commentaries, a look at the production, promotional items, and trailers.
This is a fun addition to the series and a good popcorn flick. Fox does a better than expected job with the presentation making this an easy recommendation for fans.
