Redbox Gets the Blus
Redbox has been making Blu-ray discs available in a few locations for several months, but now it's official: The rental kiosk king will make BD available nationwide.
At the moment BDs are available in 13,300 kiosks, or slightly more than half the total. They will be rented from all 23,000 kiosks nationwide by fall. The rental cost is $1.50 per night plus tax.
Each kiosk holds 630 discs with up to 200 titles. Since Redbox will continue to rent DVD, it seems inevitable that either the number of titles or the number of discs per title will fall. Redbox says "the number of BDs and copies will vary by kiosk and location with new titles being added each week." Currently available BD titles include The Book of Eli, Bounty Hunter, Brooklyn's Finest, and Green Zone.
