Whatever rumors you've heard about the Red Scarlet camera, just forget them. While waiting to come out with the Scarlet, times changed, needs arose, and Red rolled with the changes, with a massive redesign.

Lucky for us, Jim Jannard from Red likes posting on the RedUser forum. "Wipe your minds of the past announced Scarlet. Forget the design and forget the price. It is all different now. We think you will be surprised. The market has changed and we have discovered a lot of things in the process. We have a new vision."

Is the name "Scarlet" really going away?

Doubtful. Forum posts indicate that the name should stick around, but new specs won't be out until next April's NAB show. Orders should be shipping by fall 2009.

Can't help but wonder: If they keep pushing it back, will new technologies come up that Red will want to incorporate? At some point, you've just got to hit the market as it stands. -Leslie Shapiro
