Road Gear: VizuaLogic VMOD Mobile Media Server

MEDIA À LA MOD Out of the thousands of products, hundreds of pimped-out vehicles, and dozens of partially clad... um, booth models at the annual SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show in Las Vegas in November, VizuaLogic's VMOD stood out from all the hubbub. Short for VizuaLogic Media on Demand, VMOD is a media server with a 1.4-gigahertz Intel processor and a 40-gigabyte automotive-grade hard drive (which can be upgraded to 80 or 100 gigs). It stores an alphabet soup of digital media: MP3, WMA, and AAC audio, plus DivX and iTunes video.

SLOTS O' FUN The OD's USB and PC-card slots let you add broadband wireless capability to surf the Internet and send files via Wi-Fi from a PC to a VMOD-equipped vehicle while it's parked at home. Not only that: A DVD player, videogame console, or any other A/V device can be jacked in via on-board RCA inputs. To control the black-box VMOD, a supplied remote comes with a touchpad mouse and Graffiti text entry. VizuaLogic hopes you'll mate the VMOD to one of its replacement-headrest video monitors, but it can be added to just about any aftermarket or stock video system. $699 vizualogic.com 800-624-7960
