Samsung Bows Wood-Framed TV

We’ve lived with wall-mounted TVs long enough that they’ve become a cliché—or worse, a visual intrusion. Samsung addresses that problem with a TV called The Frame. This wooden-framed TV imitates a framed picture with an “art mode” that lets you select from 100 different still images in 10 categories, including landscape, architecture, wildlife, action, and drawing.

Interchangeable bezels tailor the frame to your room’s décor. And of course connections are wireless to avoid spoiling the effect. This Quantum Dot QLED Ultra HDTV is available in sizes from 55 to 75 inches for $2,799 to $6,799.

There are two models available in the US, the UN55LS003 and the UN65LS003. While they have support for the "Zero Gap" wall mount (actually included in the box with both models!), and the fiber optic "One Connect" cable like the "Q" series, neither of these models have Quantum Dot technology or carry the QLED moniker. They are roughly equivalent to the KS9000 or KS8000 with respect to picture quality (which isn't a bad thing!).

The defining feature of these sets, though, is that when in "Standby" mode, it displays a single static image, and it dims the panel in such a way that it looks like you are looking at a print, instead of just a picture displayed on a TV! This is a GAME CHANGING set here, folks, and it will appeal to anyone who hates the idea of a TV set dominating their living space when it's not in use. The interchangeable bezels (available in white, light wood, and dark wood) make it even better. These are going to be HOT!
