Savant Announces its First DIY Remote
The remote—which offers control via a touchscreen, hard buttons, and voice command—will be available in December as part of a $499 package that includes the Host wireless hub and the Blaster for controlling devices in closed cabinets and closets. Lamp Controllers, which give homeowners the ability to turn lamps on and off using the Savant Remote or Savant App, will be available separately for $99 each.
When the remote is in voice control mode, users can change TV channels by speaking the name of a favorite channel, activate components by name, and engage an automated scene that activates a sequence of events at the touch of a button. Saying “Relax,” for example, might start Sonos music playback and dim lights. Users can also set up personalized profiles that provide immediate access to favorite channels and scenes.
Savant is also adding an instant setup feature to its free Savant App that walks users through the setup process and helps them connect entertainment devices without needing to know model numbers and types.
“Our aim with the new Savant Remote was to create an easy to use but incredibly powerful entertainment interface, and address the major sources of frustration with traditional and universal remotes,” said CEO William Lynch.
