Sennheiser’s Wireless Earphones Target Audiophiles

Sennheiser is for the first time targeting audiophiles with wireless earphones designed to match the performance of its popular IE 80S wired model.

The neckband-style IE 80S BT earphones ($500) employ a "top-quality" AKM digital-to-analog converter (DAC) and support aptX HD-enabled Bluetooth and LHDC (low latency and high-definition audio codec) data delivery for processing higher bit rates to achieve sound quality "on par with wired performance."

The earphones boast 0.4-inch drivers with neodymium magnets and include a companion Smart Control app with a five-band equalizer and bass control in addition to providing one-touch access to popular voice assistants such as Siri or Google Assistant.

Sennheiser says the IE 80S BT earphones are designed for the always-on connected age and tuned to mimic the tonal characteristics of its audiophile-caliber headphones. They also draw on Sennheiser’s expertise in microphone and noise-reduction technology to ensure clear sound for phone calls and communication with voice assistants.

The earphones have flexible ear hooks and come with a selection of silicone, silicone lamellar, and Comply Memory Foam ear tips in three sizes to ensure a proper fit. The neckband can be detached so the earphones can be used with an optional cable.

Rated battery life is 6 hours.
