Simaudio Previews ‘Future Proof’ Streaming DAC
Slated for release in December, the new Moon 680D ($9,000) is based on the 780D v2 and built around the company’s MiND 2 (Moon intelligent Network Device) module, which provides access to TuneIn internet radio and streams hi-res music from digital libraries — including files stored on streaming services such as Tidal — to your audio system.
The 680D is Roon Ready and supports MQA decoding on all of its nine inputs, PCM decoding up to 32 bits/384 kHz, native DSD decoding up to DSD256, and wireless streaming via aptX-enabled Bluetooth. It also has an Ethernet connection for hard-wired setups.
Simaudio says the 680D is easy to use and provides integrated access to the “premium services” Tidal Masters, Qobuz Sublime+, and Deezer Hi-Fi.
“The design team at Simaudio has taken the blueprint of the 680D’s big brother, the award-winning 780D v2, to carefully craft this multi-talented streaming DAC using the very latest in performance audio technology and the finest of materials,” Simaudio said in a press release.
The 680D is available with a black, silver, or two-tone black and silver front panel (as shown in the photo).
