Sony KDS-60A2000 SXRD HDTV HT Labs Measures
• Full-On/Full-Off Contrast Ratio—7899:1;
ANSI Contrast Ratio—270:1
• Measured Resolution with the Leader LT-446:
480: 480 (per picture height)
20p: 720 (pph)
1080i: 1040 (pph)
• DC Restoration (poor, average, good, excellent): Excellent
• Color Decoder (poor, average, good, excellent): Excellent
• Measured Color Points:
Red Color Point: x=0.672, y=0.326
Green Color Point: x=0.295, y=0.689
Blue Color Point: x=0.144, y=0.050
The top chart shows the KDS-60A2000's gray scale relative to its color temperature at various levels of intensity, or brightness (20 IRE is dark gray; 100 IRE is bright white). The gray scale as set by the factory, in the Warm2 color-temperature mode, measures a little cool with dark images and a little less cool with brighter images. After making adjustments using the Photo Research PR-650, the gray scale measures within 148 Kelvin of D6500, the accurate color temperature, across the entire range.
The bottom chart shows the gray scale (or color temperature) relative to the color points of the display's red, green, and blue LCOS panels. These are off those specified by SMPTE. Blue is slightly oversaturated. Red and green are very oversaturated.
After calibration, and using a full-field 100-IRE white (63.19 foot-lamberts) and a full-field 0-IRE black (0.008 ft-L), the contrast ratio was 7,899:1. Using a 16-box checkerboard pattern (ANSI contrast), the contrast ratio was 270:1. The best contrast ratio was achieved in the Auto1 iris mode and with Power Saving on. The brightest image was achieved in the Max iris mode and with Power Saving off. This mode produced 83.31 ft-L with a 100-IRE field and 0.035 ft-L on a 0-IRE field (2,380:1). With the iris set to Min and Power Saving on, the KDS-60A2000 produced 29.44 and 0.008 ft-L (3,680:1).—GM
