Good news from Sony, if you happen to live in Japan. Sony's new Bravia KDL-32JE1 is setting a new standard in efficiency, with a power consumption of only 89 Watts. The 32" monitor has a long list of features that make it not only good for your home theater, but also good for the whole planet.

The new Bravia has an energy efficiency rate of 173% and it's received Japan's five star "Energy Saving Label," which is Japan's highest rating for energy efficiency (it exceeds that standard by 68%).

The TV doesn't give up anything in performance. It has a contrast ratio of 2500:1, viewing angle of 178 degrees, HDMI interface and a digital tuner. Resolution is WXGA 1366 x 768. It's scheduled for release in Japan on July 30th, for about $1,390 US.

Perhaps even more noteworthy is that the KDL-32JE1 marks the beginning of new manufacturing plans from Sony. From now on, Sony is planning to increase the use of flame-retardant plastics and the use of recycled waste materials from plastic optical film in all its Bravia LCD TVs.
