Splice (Blu-ray)
Other than the unwelcome horror elements, Splice kept me mildly entertained with its thought provoking premise. One thing's for sure, don't screw around with Mother Nature unless you're willing to deal with the consequences of raising a most unusual being as your own.
Video Highlights
- VC-1/1080p encode on a BD-25 disc
- Very little depth
- Flat contrast
- Dull color palette
Audio Highlights
- DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack
- Enveloping surround mix
- Crisp dynamics
- Room-shaking bass
The cinematography has a low budget look, but given the films independent roots, it isn't surprising. On the plus side the sound design is extremely well done and helps to draw you into the picture.
Bonus Materials
- Behind-the-scenes featurette
- DVD & Digital copy of the film
The subject matter isn't for everyone, but it's mildly entertaining and never takes itself too seriously. Sadly the video encode is average and the audio track is very engaging. Give it a rent.
