The Summer of YouTube

Google's revamp of YouTube as a platform for live events has generated plenty of excitement already, if mainly for its potential to dominate the rapidly expanding streaming market.

Whatever the service ends up becoming as it matures, it looks like it's going to come in handy for this year's season of summer music festivals. Getting underway Friday at 4 p.m., YouTube will be hosting three channels of live streaming covering all of Coachella's stages, for all three days of the California festival - and that includes Kings of Leon, PJ Harvey, The Black Keys, Lauryn Hill, Big Audio Dynamite . . . welcome news for those not able to make it this year.
