TCL Announces Pricing, Availability for 2020 Roku TVs
TCL 6-Series
As Sound & Vision previously reported from the CES 2020 show floor, new 6-Series Roku models will feature a backlight consisting of thousands of mini-LEDs similar to the company’s 75-inch 8-Series model that we reviewed in 2019. This mini-LED array will power up to 240 Contrast Control (local dimming) zones on 6-Series sets, which additionally pack Quantum Dots (QLED) and support for the Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG HDR formats. The 6-Series models are also outfitted with an AiPQ Engine that features dedicated algorithms to enhance color, contrast, sharpness, and upscaling.
All 6-Series models have a brushed metal design while select screen sizes feature configurable 2-position legs to provide flexible installation options for a range of TV furniture. An Easy Voice Control feature supports popular voice assistants to control the TV’s functions. Gaming is also part of the 6-Series picture, with the new sets offering a THX Certified Game Mode, along with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and an Auto Game Mode. In addition to VRR, HDMI 2.1 features on 6-Series models include ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel), and 4K/120Hz input.
The 6-Series comes in 55-, 65-, and 75-inch screen sizes, priced at $650, $900, and $1,400, respectively.
TCL 5-Series
TCL’s new 5-Series sets follow the company’s 6-Series models in providing Quantum Dot (QLED) color tech and the AiPQ engine, along with support for Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG HDR formats. The 5-Series models also feature a standard LED backlight with 80-zone Contrast Control (local dimming), a “FullView” bezel-less design, and Auto Game Mode.
The 5-Series comes in 50-, 55-, 65-, and 75-inch screen sizes with prices ranging from $400 to $1,100.
There’s no news yet from TCL on availability or pricing for the 8K Roku models it talked up at CES 2020, but the company said that word on those sets is forthcoming—probably later this year. News on the new Vidrian mini-LED display tech the company demo’d at CES will also be revealed at that time.
