Thiel Tips Hat to New Home
The country is loaded with 3rd Avenues but the one referenced in Thiel's new 3rd Avenue Collection is in Nashville, the company's new home. The line includes the TM3 monitor ($3498/pair), with 6.5-inch fiberglass woofer and one-inch titanium tweeter; the TT1 tower ($5798/pair), with two 6.5-inch aluminum woofers, 4.25-inch fiberglass midrange, and the same tweeter; and the TC1 center ($2495), with dual 6.5-inch aluminum woofers, 3.5-inch fiberglass midrange, and the tweeter. All drivers are proprietary creations of new design VP Mark Mason. The baffle and midrange mounting optimize the backwave to flatten response and improve clarity. Two forthcoming subs will include the SUB1, a 12-inch, 1000-watt model with RS-232 jack for CI use, target price $3000. Speakers are shipping first quarter, subs coming at the end of the year.
