Tooth Fairy (Blu-ray)
Much like Arnold before him, Johnson is attempting to branch out into comedic roles in order to break out of the action genre. While I loved his work in The Game Plan the same can't be said here. The cast is talented and includes Julie Andrews as the Queen Fairy and Ashley Judd as the love interest, but the script seems forced and shallow and the laughs were few and far between.
Video Highlights
- AVC/1080p encode on a BD-50 disc
- Vivid color palette
- Solid detail
- Occasional black crush
- Accurate flesh tones
Audio Highlights
- DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack
- Intelligible dialog
- Suitable ambience
- Strong midrange with crisp dynamics
- Hockey scenes sound fantastic
The video encode doesn't set itself apart from other day-and-date releases and the sound design doesn't lend itself to a demo-worthy presentation.
Bonus Materials
- Commentary and Introduction by director Michael Lembeck (HD)
- Tooth Fairy Training Center (HD)
- Fairy-Oke (HD)
- Gag Reel (HD)
- Deleted Scenes (HD)
- Behind the scenes featurette (HD)
- Theatrical Trailer (HD)
The kids will certainly enjoy this more than the parents although the adults will appreciate the message – never give-up on your dreams. The presentation is commendable but I would give it a rental before contemplating a purchase.
