TruAudio Subterranean Sub Pounds the Ground
The bright green fiberglass-reinforced plastic enclosure of the Subterrain-12 caught my eye as I walked the aisles of CEDIA 2015. Designed to be buried 3 feet under, the subterranean subwoofer has a 12-inch driver that vents through a mushroom dome that blends nicely into landscaped areas.
Due out by the end of November, the $2,000 outdoor boombox is rated down to 28 Hz (±3 dB) and said to handle 500 watts at 4 ohms (or 200 watts in a 70-volt installation). If the live demo I heard is any indication, expect to feel the earth move under your feet. Overall dimensions are approximately 25 x 22 x 34 inches.
The smaller Subterrain-10, rated down to 40 Hz, is currently available for $1,200.
