Ultimate Ears 18 Pro Custom Monitors have six speakers
We know first hand that there are a lot of great in-ear headphone options out there, but the new custom jobs from Ultimate Ears are next level. Like with their other made-to-order monitors, each pair is created from an impression of your ear canal you'll have to have made by a qualified audiologist. Upgrades over their previous flagship include four-way crossovers with both acoustic and electrical tuning and a low-distortion cable, which is a must for something that's going to be jammed so far into your head.
Of course, the biggest upgrade is the bump to six-speakers. In order to keep things from getting crowded, UE has equipped each tirple and concentric sound channel with a tuned in-line filter they claim allows the frequencies to blend in the ear rather than in the monitor. They will begin taking orders in February, when you can expect to pay $1,350, not including the trip to the audiologist. There's also an optional upgrade which will drop ambient noise by 26 dBs if you're willing to shell out an extra $50. That shouldn't be much of an issue for the rock star clientelle monitors like this tend to attract. Technical specs after the jump.- Speaker Type: 6 proprietary precision balanced armatures
