Vizio Rolls Out AirPlay 2, HomeKit Update

Vizio has joined LG and NAD as one of the latest brands to support Apple’s AirPlay 2 platform, enabling wireless streaming from Apple iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

Starting today, Vizio is rolling out an update that brings AirPlay 2 and Apple’s HomeKit smart-home control software to TVs based on the company’s SmartCast 3.0 platform. The rollout will “continue over the coming months to reach both new and existing SmartCast TVs dating back to 2016,” the company said.

Owners of Vizio TVs will be able to stream movies from Apple TV and other AirPlay 2-compatible apps, “mirror” photos and video from Apple devices on the big screen, and share music across AirPlay 2-compatible speakers around the home. For Apple devices running iOS 12.3 or later or macOS 10.14.5 or later, AirPlay 2 supports 4K video with Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR).

HomeKit enables Vizio TV owners to control the TV and smart-home devices using Siri voice commands or via Apple’s Home app.

With the Apple update, Vizio smart TVs will support voice commands via Siri, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa.

TVs slated to receive the update belong to the following series:

• P-Series Quantum X (2019)
• P-Series Quantum (2019 and 2018)
• P-Series (2018, 2017 and 2016)
• M-Series Quantum (2019)
• M-Series (2018, 2017 and 2016)
• E-Series (2018, 2017 and 2016 UHD models)
