Warner's Watchmen Gets Facebook Time

Some of us fantasize about being on Mystery Science Theater. A few of us, perhaps, may see ourselves as Beavis or Butthead. But all of us will get a new way to hobnob with other viewers when the Blu-ray version of Warner's Watchmen hits the streets. This BD-Live release will sync with Facebook, letting users of the social networking site commune with one another while they watch the movie.

Chatting with other viewers online during a movie isn't a new idea. BD-Live already allows community screens through the buddy list. But this is the first time a movie on disc has synchronized with a social networking site.

A split-screen function, which Warner calls Maximum Movie Mode, will also let viewers focus on specific elements in the director's on-camera commentary.

Warner has been quite a BD-Live innovator, having previously offered live director's commentary on The Dark Knight to 50,000 viewers on a dedicated website.

Look for the Director's Cut BD release in late July for $35.99. There will also be a DVD version for $28.98, as well as a pay-per-view release of the theatrical cut, but what fun is that?
