Is AirPlay a Game-Changer?

AirPlay seems destined to open the world of multiroom audio/video to an audience that couldn’t previously have afforded it. It’s certain to find its way into countless audio/video products, from receivers and docks now to perhaps TVs and automotive entertainment systems in the future. And the idea is catching on among tech-industry behemoths: the combined impact of the just announced Google Music and Android@Home frameworks remains to be seen.

But the idea that AirPlay and its siblings will take a big chunk out of the custom installation business is far-fetched. Cutting holes in the wall for speakers? Sorry, there’s not an app for that.
