World’s First Retro-Styled Streaming Audio Player?

Audio icon McIntosh introduced an AV processor, streaming audio player, and wireless speaker at CES 2016 in Las Vegas last week, all sporting the brand’s signature retro styling.

Slated for availability this month, the MX122 AV processor ($7,000) features Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio surround-sound processing, is upgradeable to DTS:X and Auro-3D, and upscales video to 4K Ultra HD resolution. All HDMI inputs and outputs are HDCP 2.2-compatible and support high dynamic range (HDR), 4K Ultra HD at 50/60Hz, 4:4:4 color, Rec. 2020, and 3D video pass-through. Other highlights include Audyssey MultEQ XT32 calibration, AV playback in two additional zones, Bluetooth and AirPlay connectivity, support for high-resolution DSD64 files, vTuner Internet radio, and access to Pandora, SiriusXM and Spotify streaming services.

The MB50 streaming audio player ($2,000) will be available in March and supports DTS Play-Fi for wirelessly streaming over an existing Wi-Fi network and includes apps for Deezer, KKBox, Pandora, QQMusic, Rhapsody, SiriusXM, Songza, Spotify, Tidal, and other streaming services. Analog and digital inputs are provided for connecting audio components and letting the MB50 act as a preamp.

The RS100 wireless speaker ($1,000) is also slated for March availability and supports DTS Play-Fi. Up to 16 speakers can be connected to a single Wi-Fi network, enough for stereo playback in eight rooms. With the Play-Fi app installed on multiple devices, each device can stream different music to each room. The speaker supports the same streaming services as the MB50 and includes an auxiliary input and subwoofer output.
