Wrap Up: E3 2012
The dust has settled, E3 is over, and I have a notebook of nigh indecipherable scratches and scribbles left over from my week in LA. Covering E3 as one person and seeing everything is impossible, but I was able to check out a lot of very cool stuff.
It’s a telling sign of where we are in the current generation of game console hardware’s lifecycle when developers either won’t say what platforms their games are releasing on (or tell us that their demos are running on high-end PC hardware).
Don’t get me wrong, most of what I saw last week were console games, but Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs and the Bethesda-published Dishonored were among the best looking games this year and both were demoed on PC. That doesn’t mean Assassin’s Creed III, Hitman: Absolution, Halo 4, and The Last of Us didn’t look spectacular, but there’s definitely a shift among developers toward new hardware. Expect to see even more of this at next year’s show as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 enter their seventh and eighth years, respectively.
Without further ado, see the attached gallery for the best of what I saw from E3 2012, in no particular order.
