Yamaha’s DTS:X Firmware Updates Coming Soon

Yamaha today announced that DTS:X firmware updates for several Dolby-Atmos-enabled receivers and other products will be available soon.

Updates will be available in early March for the CX-A5100 AV processor—Sound & Vision’s Top Pick of the Year in Audio Separates—and three AV receivers: the RX-A3050 ($2,200), RX-A2050 ($1,700), and RX-A1050 ($1,300).

The DTS:X firmware update for the YSP-5600 Sound Bar ($1,600) is slated for April. From Yamaha’s press release:

With the CX-A5100, Yamaha enables CINEMA DSP (a proprietary sound field processor) to be applied to both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X during playback. By applying CINEMA DSP, the user will be immersed even further and feel as if they are right in the middle of the scene.

Already the world’s first sound bar with Dolby Atmos, the YSP-5600 will now also hold the title as the world’s first sound bar with DTS:X technology. With this sound bar, users can enjoy immersive 3D sound reproduction equivalent to a 7.1.2-channel system. Yamaha is able to realize the enveloping sound field by using its Digital Sound Projector technology. The YSP-5600 recreates the placement of all the speakers by using sound beams that reflect off of surrounding walls and now off the ceiling to bounce back to the listener’s position. This robust sound system enables users to enjoy a breathtaking three-dimensional sound experience from a single sound bar.

Incidentally, STAFF(if that is your real name), I finally received word from Pioneer's customer service as to when they'll be rolling out the DTS:X firmware upgrades for their upper-tier Elite Receivers. They answered thusly:
"Thank you for contacting Pioneer Home Entertainment.
To answer your question.
We apologize for the delay and thank you for your patience.
The firmware enabling DTS:X in Pioneer AVRs is in the final stages of development. We continue to work closely with DTS and its manufacturing partners and intend to make an official announcement of a release date sometime in the late summer of 2016."

Just thought I'd throw that out there since no one else has any info on Pioneer's DTS:X plans.
