Ian has a decision: stay home and stay a virgin or drive 800 miles to lose it with an online hottie. Decision made. Now Ian and his horn-dog buddy Lance are off on a sex safari...with "BFF" baggage Felicia in tow. Their epic quest features a stolen GTO, kinky trailer park sex, a prison fight, topless Abstinence Xtreme dancers, a smart-ass Amish super-mechanic, a gun-wielding Mexican donut and Ian's "d-bag" brother in hot pursuit.

Raunchy sex comedies are definitely making a comeback. It seemed like we were going through a phase where everyone was trying to be a bit too PC in this department and the results were boring. Sex Drive doesn’t have quite the spit and polish of some of the recent Apatow films but it still delivers some great laughs and comedy that doesn’t feel quite so forced. Summit delivers both the theatrical cut and an unrated cut for this Blu-ray edition. The unrated cut is a bit silly as it adds random people into the frame digitally that are naked, simply to add more nudity. This is intentional and an obvious poke at all the silly “unrated editions” out there. The director even mentions this before the film and suggests the theatrical cut for your first viewing for the most enjoyment.

Summit does a great job with the presentation. The video has a nice sense of detail and dimension and colors are quite vibrant. Fine object detail isn’t quite as strong as some of the reference transfers out there but the video holds up remarkably well for a lower budget production. Depth of image is also very strong and I didn’t notice anything in terms of compression problems or banding.

The soundtrack is limited to lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 but it still delivers some solid dynamic range and spatial qualities. They amp up the low end here, especially with the GTO and the bass line delivers some solid kick for the genre. I loved the soundtrack selections and they do a great job of livening up the presentation and broadening the front soundstage. Dialogue always sounds natural and tonal balance and imaging is solid.

Not only do you get both versions of the film for this Blu-ray but you also get a feature audio commentary with the film’s director, a look at making the movie with interviews and on-set footage, and two actor profiles.

This is a solid addition to the teenage sex comedy genre and Summit has done a good job with the presentation overall. Hopefully their future titles will include a lossless soundtrack but they did a good job with the lossy mix. Fans of the genre should definitely give this one a spin.
