When Jenny, a bright young school girl who longs for adulthood, meets David, a dashing older man, he introduces her to his vibrant world of glamorous friends, chic jazz clubs and her own sexual awakening. Will she let this affair ruin her dreams of attending Oxford, as her headmistress fears?
I was really hoping to catch this one in theaters but unfortunately it didn’t make it to any of the local cinemas during its brief theatrical run. A great story of young love and how it takes over, An Education is about a young British school girl who is taken by an older businessman. As the relationship grows she finds that the man is more than he sometimes seems, but oh how love can turn a blind eye. Carey Mulligan turns in a brilliant performance as the school girl and it’s easy to see why the Academy gave her a nod. The rest of the performances are solid as well, making this one of the better relationship dramas I’ve seen recently.
Sony turns in another fine transfer with this one. The British backdrop is a bit drab but delivers great blacks and solid contrast. Fine detail always shines through and the image has lots of dimension and depth. Colors shine when needed, but never really stand out. The DTS-HD audio mix is also good and fits the mood of the film. Ambiance is very natural and the track has some subtle spatial cues that heighten the sense of space.
Extras include a feature commentary with the director and lead cast. You also get some deleted scenes and a look at the production and reception in Hollywood.
This film is full of brilliant performances and I hope to see more of Mulligan going forward. Sony once again delivers the goods when it comes to presentation making this one an easy recommendation.

It's very cool when education is delivered in different ways. In fact, I like to make things as easy as possible for myself and learning something through film or audio is one of these ways. Recently, I had to write an essay and I realised how much time and effort I needed to spend on it, and it was not my topic at all. So I found the service www.essayedge.com and used their help. I think that for lazy people like me it is just the best solution.
