The Dukes of Hazzard—Warner Brothers (HD DVD)

Yes, I know it’s stupid, sophomoric, and about two dumb guys doing some fancy driving in an old muscle car, but that’s what makes it great! OK, maybe “great” is too strong a word. It makes me laugh and has some of the best precision driving since Ronin. I wrote the DVD review for this movie a few months ago, and I really can’t think of anything else to say about it. Bo and Luke have to—I don’t know—save Uncle Jesse’s farm or something.

The 2.40:1 transfer is excellent. There is a lot of detail, although perhaps not quite as much as a few of the other titles out there. There is a tiny bit of film grain, and, like the DVD, there seems to be a very slight pinkish tint to everything. All in all, it looks pretty good, though. On the audio side of things, the Dolby Digital Plus track seems to have the same mix as the Dolby Digital 5.1 mix from the DVD. It sounds better, though; the music has more life, and the dialogue sounds more realistic. OK, the voices sound more realistic, anyway.

The extras are also the same as those on the DVD. These include a funny behind-the-scenes documentary, several short featurettes, a number of deleted scenes, and a music video. Disappointingly, none of these features is in HD. There’s no doubt, it’s a dumb movie; but it’s stupid funny, has some great driving, and looks and sounds great.
