Wireless TVs on the Way

Wireless TVs may be on the market as soon as the second half of 2010.

Three manufacturers--Hitachi, Panasonic, and Toshiba--are developing 60GHz RF transceiver chips that would work with integrated antennas in video displays. They would support high-quality HDTV with bandwidth of 7GHz and a data rate of 1.5Gbps, enough for HD streams from Blu-ray players.

Panasonic is also looking at incorporating a version of the technology into kiosks that would sell content and transfer it to portable devices. A standard-definition movie could be transferred in nine seconds or a CD in five seconds.
