Runco DLP Projector Features Latest Chipset

One of the biggest names in video projection technology has a hot new DLP projector on the market. (DLP, or "Digital Light Processing," originated at Texas Instruments and has been licensed to projector makers worldwide.) Runco's VX-1000c uses a new TI digital micromirror device (DMD) with a 1280 x 720 pixel array, ideal for 16:9 screens.

The $16,995 VX-1000c is the first widescreen DLP™ system specifically designed for the home theater, Runco claims. The pixel array of the new DMD allows the projector to display 720p HDTV images in their native form. The projector can also display 480p and 1080i digital TV formats; a "pixel-for-pixel" (PFP™) controller enables the scaling of NTSC or PAL television signals native resolution of the display.

Runco was one of the first companies to exploit the advantages of DLP technology for home theater, noted TI marketing manager Pete Broas. "The VX-1000c is one of the first products to take advantage of our recently-released high definition chipsets for home entertainment applications."

Many video projectors have difficulty creating pictures that are both bright enough and also have a realistic black level. That's not the case with the VX-1000c. Runco's new DLP projector can achieve brightness levels of 1500 ANSI lumens, and has an astounding contrast ratio of 1000:1. The VX-1000c is expected to set new standards in clarity, sharpness, and brightness, Broas added.

The projector is also designed for installation flexibility, with a vertical lens shift feature and electronic keystone correction. The optical zoom makes for easy setup at any distance from the screen. An RS-232 port and single remote control are all that's needed for setup. The VX-1000c is available now at all Runco dealers.
