WinDVD with Blu-ray's BD-Live Certification
It's gonna be worth the wait - Corel's WinDVD Blu-ray playback software has received certification for BD-Live, or BD Profile 2.0. This certification is granted after guidelines and standards are checked by the Blu-ray Disc Association.
The current version is already impressive with upscaling and a host of other features. However, adding BD-Live opens up a whole array of options.
It's available now for manufacturers - when can you pick up your copy?
The after-market version of WinDVD with BD-Live support should be available in early 2008. Guess we'll have to wait to get the BD-Live features, such as Internet social networking, online gaming with multiple players, and online shopping while viewing Blu-ray discs.
The Blu-ray version of WinDVD adds support for DTS-HD Master Audio and BD-R/BD-RE compatibility.
The Corel press release added more information. "Corel continues to be a leader in supporting the adoption and enjoyment of Blu-ray technologies, and the BD-Live certification of WinDVD is no exception," says Denise MacDonell, Senior Director of Product Management, Digital Media at Corel. "Our WinDVD users will be able to experience the latest online capabilities while watching Blu-ray movies. Whether they are downloading movie trailers from the internet, purchasing movie memorabilia, playing games with multiple players or interacting with friends through the latest social networking sites, our users will benefit from a truly connected movie experience." -Leslie Shapiro
