Movies and TV Downloads Hit Playstation Network
Breaking news out of E3. Sony's Playstation Network users can now rent or purchase movies and TV shows. Notice what I said. Now rent and purchase. Like, right now.
Beyond Sony's own material, Turner, MGM, Fox, Lions Gate, Warner, Disney, Paramount, and others have already signed up too.
How much will downloads cost? Perhaps more pressing - will any HD content be available?
TV shows will start at $1.99, movie rentals will range from $2.99 to $5.99. Movie purchases will range from $9.99 to $14.99. Here's the kick: Some titles will be available for rental in HD in addition to standard def. Woohoo! Movies can't be purchased in high def. On the positive side, content begins playing very quickly after you begin to download it.
Playstation Network users will get one sign-on for all Playstation devices with network access: PS3, PSP, and PC.
Sony's jumping with both feet into the download market. And sticking the landing. -Leslie Shapiro
