CBS Radio Live Stream Puts a Face on Radio

Still listen to the radio? Ever wonder what your favorite deejay or newscaster looks like? You no doubt have an image of him (or her) in your mind, however, fictitious it might be. The guessing game is over if you’re a fan of CBS Radio News: the 24/7 cable TV-like news service is now streaming live at radio.com, writes S&V contributor Michael Antonoff in a recent article for USA Today.

“If you happen to be up early on any weekday morning streaming CBSN, you'll see a thin man in Sony headphones and a long-sleeve shirt speak into a bulbous microphone inches from his glasses,” Antonoff writes. “The studio he occupies is about the size of a janitor's closet, and the uneven lighting shimmers with a hot spot burning the "B" in the CBS Radio News signage that's slightly askew on the wall.”

The man is news correspondent Frank Settipani and he, like other veterans of radio who occupy the anchor chair, seems oblivious to the camera. In fact, his apparent lack of interest in addressing the camera has the unintended result of making viewers feel like they're peering through a surveillance camera. But it’s not that way with every newscaster. Anchor Steve Dorsey likes to bounce in his chair and gesture like a symphony maestro. But is he animated enough to make you want to come back for more?
