Origin Acoustics Continues to Be Original
Another set of new architectural subwoofers announced by Origin is designed for in-wall installation. The new 10- and 12-inch subs utilize all-aluminum enclosures that are able to provide up to 40-percent more internal cabinet space than one built with MDF. The new-construction models have a unique mounting system that suspends the sub enclosure within the wall. The retro-fit design 10-inch model will be $1,400. The 10- and 12-inch new construction models will be $1,600 and $2,000 respectively. Origin claims the new 12-inch model will be capable of bass response down to an astounding 24 Hz.
Origin’s new Home Theater in-wall series, The Theater Collection, includes two rectangular models, the THTR66 and THTR68. Each model incorporates four 6.5-inch drivers (two mid, two bass) with a single DPSD one-inch tweeter. The THTR66, with Kevlar drivers, will be $1,400/each, while the THTR68 with its glass-fiber drivers, will retail for $1,800/each.
Finally, Origin presented several new entry-level in-ceiling speakers as part of its top-end Director Series and new outdoor speakers that utilize a line-array design for better control of acoustic dispersion in smaller, more intimate outdoor locations, such as balconies.
