LH Labs Previews Inspire 5 Soundbar System
Prices are $399 for the soundbar-only 2.0 version and $799 for the 2.1 package, which includes a wireless subwoofer. Both are expected to ship in May. The subwoofer alone is priced at $399.
Developed in conjunction with Starke Sound’s Dan Wiggins, acoustic engineer behind the Sonos Play:1, Play:3, and Playbar systems, the Inspire 5 system supports Bluetooth and has five listening modes tailed to specific types of content or situations: movies, TV, games, music, and party.
The Movie and TV modes are said to enlarge the sound field and “present soundtracks, dialogue and special effects with their intended rich and acoustic textures intact.” The music mode uses a proprietary Reverse EQ Audiophile Compensation algorithm that aims to reduce listener fatigue by flattening the frequency response of the incoming signal.
In Game mode, a proprietary DSP algorithm is said to expand the sound field and decompress the dynamic range of audio in the vocal range to create a more engaging experience.
The soundbar is a ported, two-way design with pairs of 3-inch drivers and 1-inch silk-dome tweeters. The Sub 5, which packs two 8-inch woofers and a 300-watt amplifier, is rated to play below 36 Hz.
