Pioneer Introduces Budget Subwoofer
Pioneer today introduced a larger, more powerful subwoofer to complement its SP series of speakers.
Encased in a 14 x 15 x 14-inch vented enclosure, the SW-10 ($350, far left in photo) has a frequency range of 30 Hz–150 Hz and features a down-firing 10-inch driver powered by a 200-watt BASH amplifier. The driver uses a wide rubber surround instead of a more cost-effective foam surround, which improves cone excursion and, in turn, bass response, according to Pioneer. Rubber also doesn’t degrade over time like foam.
Controls include a phase switch, a crossover frequency adjustment and both speaker- and line-level inputs are provided along with a detachable power cord.
