‘Rocketman’ Hits Digital Today, 4K Blu-ray Aug. 27

Rocketman, the story of Elton John’s transformation from child prodigy to one of pop music’s most iconic figures, is available in digital release starting today and slated to arrive on 4K Blu-ray August 27 in high dynamic range (HDR) with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) turns in an electrifying performance as Elton in a 2-hour movie with domestic box office sales of $95 million to date and a 89% “Certified Fresh” rating on RottenTomatoes.com. The movie is available on Vudu and Google Play for $19.99 in HD and $24.99 in 4K.

Both the digital release and forthcoming 4K disc include more than 75 minutes of bonus content, including four extended musical sequences introduced by director Dexter Fletcher, 10 deleted and extended scenes, 13 sing-along tracks, and behind-the-scenes footage. Intimate footage from recording-studio sessions and interviews with Elton John, the cast, and filmmakers are also included along with a jukebox feature that lets viewers to skip directly to the film’s musical numbers.

The digital release ups the ante with three additional featurettes and two more deleted/extended scenes that will not be available on disc but the Blu-ray will include a collectible booklet.

Apple TV (iTunes) goes a step further with the addition of rehearsal footage from "The Bitch Is Back" and a look at Elton John's lasting impact.
