Denon Introduces Upscale, Hi-Res-Capable Soundbars

Denon today introduced two upscale soundbars featuring 4K-ready HDMI inputs with ARC (audio return channel), wireless multiroom streaming, and support for high-resolution music playback.

The DHT-S716H soundbar ($899) supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio surround-sound decoding and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) for improved gaming while providing four 4K-capable HDMI 2.0a inputs that also support Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR) and HDCP 2.2 copy protection.

The soundbar can be paired with the DSW-1H wireless subwoofer (sold separately for $599) and expanded into a true 5.1-channel system when used with a pair of Denon’s HEOS speakers.

Sporting a low-profile design, the DHT-S516H soundbar ($599) is only 2 inches tall so when it’s placed below a TV it won’t block the infrared (IR) sensor. It includes a wireless subwoofer and can be mounted on a wall.

In addition to supporting Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS decoding, the S516H includes Denon’s proprietary Dialogue Enhancer for improved dialogue intelligibility when watching movies and TV shows. It also supports Bluetooth streaming and provides an ARC-equipped HDMI port, optical digital input, and 3.5mm analog input.

Both models support Apple’s Airplay 2 wireless streaming platform as well as the latest version of Denon’s HEOS streaming platform, which supports voice control when used with an Amazon Echo or Google Home speaker, and provides access to Tidal, Pandora, Amazon Music, Spotify, TuneIn Internet Radio, and other streaming services. The custom installation-focused Josh.ai voice platform is also supported.

Both soundbars can play a variety of files, including DSD (2.8, 5.6 MHz), FLAC, WAV, and ALAC (192/24).

The DSW-1H subwoofer teams dual 5.25-inch woofers with a high-power Class-D amp and is designed to pair with the DHT-S716H soundbar via Wi-Fi.
