2021 Escalade Sports Futuristic OLED Dashboard

Yet another sign that the future has arrived comes in the form of a 38-inch-wide OLED dashboard display in the 2021 Cadillac Escalade slated to hit showrooms this fall.

The integrated display marks the first use of a curved OLED display in a production vehicle. Touted as having a wide viewing angle, the LG display boasts twice the pixel density of a 4K TV and combines three curved panels:

• Left: A touchscreen displays trip and other vehicle-related information and allows the driver to select a cluster layout and control the vehicle’s head-up display and infrared Night Vision system for detecting potential dangers (think deer) in the dark.

• Center: A cluster display behind the steering wheel has a speedometer and two configurable zones for radio, phone, and the vehicle’s advanced navigation system, which features augmented-reality overlays.

• Right: A 17-inch-wide infotainment touchscreen serves as a digital command center for navigation, music, and a host of other functions.

LG says the combination of a wide viewing angle and curved screen with bold graphics creates an intuitive dashboard display that improves the in-car experience. LG also developed software that complies with international standards for the functional safety of road vehicles to power the Escalade’s navigation and Night Vision systems.

The new Escalade is also equipped with an AKG Studio Reference sound system with 36 speakers positioned at different height levels to deliver an “immersive 360-degree listening experience.”

The global automotive display market, valued at $7.8 billion in 2019, is expected to grow to $10.5 billion by 2023, according to market research firm IHS Markit.
