LG Previews 2024 QNED TV Lineup

LG today offered a sneak peek at its 2024 lineup of QNED TVs, with screen sizes ranging from an entry-level 43-incher all the way up to a gargantuan 98-inch model, but did not disclose pricing or availability, saving that for a later date.

The company’s latest QNED models, not to be confused with its QLED lineup, combine quantum dot and NanoCell technologies in an effort to improve color reproduction and “heighten visual depth for a more immersive and three-dimensional experience.” The lineup includes models with mini-LED backlighting for enhanced contrast and more accurate backlight control.

All models incorporate LG’s new Alpha 8 (α8) AI Processor, which is described as 1.6 times faster than its predecessor in addition to delivering a 1.3-fold increase in AI performance and a 2.3-fold increase in graphic performance.

Picture-enhancement highlights include Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro, which splits the picture into blocks and analyzes each in real-time to detect the darkest and brightest areas, and AI Picture Pro, which uses deep learning to distinguish between faces, objects, and backgrounds to enhance texture, detail, and the overall realism of the image. A Personalized Picture Wizard feature also enables viewers to customize image quality.

LG is also aiming to boost personalization and convenience in the new QNED models through a new version of its webOS platform, which is designed to “give more smart TV owners the most up-to-date user experience for the next five years.” The five-year promise extends to the QNED99 and QNED95 mini-LED 8K models launched in 2022 with additional models expected to be announced at a future date.

The updated webOS system allows viewers to create individual profiles with personal preferences and enables the TV to differentiate between voices linked to user profiles in addition to offering personalized viewing recommendations. The home screen has also been updated to provide “fast, effortless access to its services, with customized organization into groups, such as Home Office, Home Hub, Sports and Games.”

Rounding out the features lineup, 2024 QNED TVs support Apple AirPlay and Chromecast for enhanced convenience in connectivity and compatibility with mobile devices. The new TVs will also feature accessibility features including dedicated menu settings, sign-language avatars, remote control tutorials, and troubleshooting guides.

Improved audio is also on tap for the new QNED TV models in the form of a built-in speaker system that delivers a virtual 9.1.2 surround experience with further enhancement possible through the use of the Wow Orchestra feature that is said to seamlessly integrate sound from the TV’s speakers with an LG soundbar.
