Emotiva Unveils 8-Model Airmotiv X Series Featuring Folded-Ribbon Tweeter
The new Airmotiv X series comprises three floorstanding towers, ranging in price from $999/pair to $1,999/pair, three center-channel/LCR speakers priced between $399 and $899, a bookshelf speaker ($499/pair), and a wall-mountable height-/surround-channel speaker ($399/pair). All of the models feature woven-cone midrange drivers with machined aluminum phase plugs and long-throw woofers.
The Airmotiv Xt3, Xt2, and Xt1 tower models are all three-way designs. The Xt3 ($1,999/pair) mates two 5.25-inch midranges with three 8-inch woofers in a 49-inch-tall cabinet and is rated down to 30 Hz (±3 dB). The slightly smaller Xt2 ($1,299/pair) has the same driver configuration but with three 6-inch woofers in a cabinet 45 inches tall and is rated down to 40 Hz (±3 dB). The Xt1 ($999/pair) is rated down to 45 Hz (±3 dB) and mates a 4.5-inch midrange with three 5.25-inch woofers in a 42-inch-tall enclosure.
Like the towers, the center-channel/LCR models are all three-way designs but with a twist: a rotatable tweeter. The lineup starts with the large-format Airmotiv Xc3 ($899), featuring a tweeter flanked by an inside 5.25-inch midrange and two 6-inch woofers on either side in an enclosure 51 inches wide. Next up is the mid-size Xc2 ($599) that places the tweeter between a 5.25-inch midrange and 6-inch woofer on the one side and a 6-inch woofer on the other in a cabinet 31.5 inches wide. For smaller-scale applications, the Xc1 ($399) has the same driver configuration as the Xc2 but with a 4.5-inch midrange and dual 5.25-inch woofers in an enclosure that’s only 26 inches wide.
Rounding out the Airmotiv X series is the Xb2 two-way bookshelf speaker ($499/pair) and Xa2 two-way surround speaker ($399/pair). Rated down to 55 Hz (±3 dB), the Xb2 is designed for vertical or horizontal placement and houses a rotatable tweeter and 6-inch woofer in a cabinet 13 inches tall. The Xa2 is a highly flexible speaker that combines a rotatable tweeter with a 5.25-inch woofer in a wedge-shaped enclosure designed to convey surround- and height-channel information in music and movie soundtracks; the speaker comes with brackets and can be mounted on the wall in a vertical or horizontal orientation or on the ceiling.
