Severtson Screens, the family-owned Arizona-based company specializing in professional and consumer projection screens since 1986, is unveiling a new series of projection screens with built-in masking at the InfoComm 2024 exhibition, which opens tomorrow in Las Vegas.

Hailed as one of the company’s most innovative technologies and the culmination of several years of research and development, the new Proteus Series screens enable home theater enthusiasts to “quickly and quietly” switch between 16:9 and 2.39:1 aspect ratios at the push of a button to avoid seeing gray bars that detract from the viewing experience.

The masking material is designed to absorb spill-over when projected images are in a different format than the viewing surface to give the viewer a “razor-sharp viewing edge,” explained Aaron White, Severtson’s home theater and pro AV sales lead.

With a Proteus screen, you can watch TV programming and sports in 16:9 format without any projection bleed-over or visible gray bars and then easily switch to the common 2.39:1 format used for movies.

As with all of Severtson’s products, the new Proteus Series screens are made at the company’s Sun Tan Valley facility. A number of projection surface options are offered, including Cinema White (1.3 gain), Cinema Grey (1.0 gain), Stellar White (1.3 - 2.6 gain), High Contrast Grey (0.7 gain), Grey Vision (1.3 - 2.2 gain), SAT-4K (1.18 gain), TAT-4K (0.93 gain), Bright White Acoustically-Transparent (1.0 - 1.1 gain), and SēVision 3D GX (1.4 - 3.0 gain with an advanced, water-based optical coating recommended for passive 3D projection).
