Samsung HLM617W Rear-Projection HD Monitor HT Labs Measures
The top chart shows the gray scale of the Samsung HD monitor relative to its color temperature at various levels of intensity, or brightness (20 IRE is dark gray; 95 IRE is bright white). As you can see, the gray scale as set by the factory, in the Warm 1 menu setting, measures 5,800 Kelvin with dark images and 6,600 K with brighter images. After making adjustments using the Photo Research PR-650, the gray scale measures within 100 degrees of D6500, the accurate setting, across nearly the entire range. The bottom chart shows the gray scale (or color temperature) relative to the color points of the display's red, green, and blue filter wheel. The color points exceed those specified by SMPTE, which means that the display will reproduce all of the colors available in the system and then some. The gray scale leans toward red before calibration and is considerably more accurate afterward. The light output is approximately 88 foot-lamberts. The display has good DC restoration and an accurate color decoder. The set is capable of displaying the maximum resolution of any source, up to the DMD's resolution limit of 1,280:720.—MW
