Assistant D.A. David Corelli is trapped between friendship and the law when the brutal murder of an important San Francisco millionaire points toward his former lover and college friend, Trina Gavin, a beautiful woman with a mysterious alter ego. As details of the murder victim's sexual escapades emerge, Corelli uncovers evidence that the victim was blackmailing a powerful politician with incriminating photographs. But as the crucial witnesses are systematically murdered and attempts on Corelli's life are made, the case assumes a paranoid veneer in which nothing is certain and no one can be trusted.

There just isn’t much to like about this film. The chase scene is pretty good, but that is about it. This one came out when Hollywood was still making some steamy thrillers, but this one just didn’t deliver the goods. Despite being written by the same guy that wrote Basic Instinct, this one just never titillates. The thrills are sparse and the sex is weak. Skip it.

It doesn’t look like Friedkin messed with this picture like he did with The French Connection. Still, this one is kind of textbook. Detail is pretty good and the image has a nice film-like look. Par for a catalog title. The soundtrack fares about the same. Dynamics are good but not great and the soundstage has enough ambiance to pass as a surround mix.

Extras are limited to the trailer only.

The story has promise but the film never delivers. Fiorentino is never sexy and the thrills don’t make up for the fact that the premise falls flat. There are far better films in the genre worth watching instead.
