Pioneer Delays Blu-ray Player—Again

Looks like 2006 is not the year of Blu-ray after all. Pioneer has announced that its BDP-HD1 won't hit until December, having already been postponed from May to June to November. Sony had previously delayed its own BSP-S1 until December 4. The Panasonic DMP-BD10 has been out since September. And the Samsung BD-P1000 hit in July, though plagued by a problem with the video processing chip. Well, maybe 2007 will be the year of Blu-ray.

Mark,My local Elite dealer just got his in. I was too busy drooling over the picture quality to ask when it would be available. I did notice one thing on the loop DVD that they were playing, when the static image was an old map from the 1800's or so was on the screen the video was jumping or what almost looked to be vibrating on the thin black lines of the drawing. He said it was feeding 1080p HDMI 1.3 to the monitor. I don't know if the monitor was 1080p or not. I will say that outside of the weird effect of the map the other video was astounding. He gave me a cost of $1275 which at this point with the format war in full swing was more than I want to spend but this blows away what I have seen from Samsung.

Thanks for posting -- I hadn't known some players had actually reached dealers. Reports of the latest delay say Pioneer is talking about "quality control" issues.
