Blu-ray Movie Reviews

Holly is an up-and-coming caterer and Messer is a promising network sports director. After a disastrous first date, all they have in common is their dislike for each other and their love for their goddaughter Sophie. But when they suddenly become all Sophie has in this world, Holly and Messer must set their differences aside. Juggling career ambitions and competing social calendars, they'll have to find common ground while living under the same roof.

This is a pretty disappointing HD presentation. I didn’t catch this one in theaters so I have no comparison reference but the image is very soft with a strong push toward golds in the color rendition. Fine detail is washed out in the lighting and I even noticed a few times throughout where the image almost has a standard definition feel that looks more like a streamed DVD quality rather than a Blu-ray image. This may be the intent of the director but it made for a drab presentation that was even distracting at times. The DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack fared better but given the genre there wasn’t much to it. Ambiance was decent though and the soundtrack lifted the mix at times with some decent spatial qualities.

Like all of Warner’s new releases this one includes both a DVD and digital copy of the film. You also get some humorous parenting advice from the leads, some deleted scenes and trailers.

This film resonated a bit more with me than it may with some viewers since I have an infant in my household. The film is far more charming than I was expecting and doesn’t rely on cheap gags to get its laughs. Overall it was a fun film for the wife and I but it may not be for everyone. I’d recommend a rental overall.
