More VOD Movies Ahead

The video-on-demand saga marches on, as Intertainer and Universal Studios' Pay-Per-View division announced last week that they have signed a long-term output agreement that will deliver the studio's film content over Intertainer's digital VOD cable platform. The companies say that Universal movies will become available on the Intertainer service starting this month.

According to the multi-year agreement, Universal Studios' Pay-Per-View will provide Intertainer with all new releases and library film titles, including access to select library television product, for distribution over the company's system.

Explaining their motivation behind signing the new agreement, Universal's Holly Leff-Pressman says, "We believe that video-on-demand is going to become a huge force in home entertainment over the next several years, and we're continuing to move forward with a strategy that shows our commitment to that industry. Intertainer is a terrific partner for our ongoing VOD efforts because of their experience in the category."

Intertainer's Jonathan Taplin adds, "Giving our users access to the depth and breadth of the Universal library will further our goal of making Intertainer just as vast as—and vastly more convenient than—a video store." Taplin's company currently delivers movies, music videos, television, and shopping on-demand to PCs and TVs. In addition to Universal, the company's partners include Warner Bros., Disney, DreamWorks, Twentieth Century Fox, Sony, Miramax, and New Line Cinema.
